LABOR’S MEDICARE TASKFORCE TO VISIT BEGA
24 Mar 2017
Mike Kelly MP and Labor’s Medicare Taskforce, Sharon Claydon MP and Dr Mike Freelander MP, will visit Bega in a series of community consultations around the nation to discuss Australia’s health system.
Dr Kelly and the Taskforce members want to gain a better understanding about the direct impacts of the government’s cuts and freezes to the health system from practitioners, healthcare clinics, pharmacies and the local community members.
“The Taskforce has been formed in response to increasing attacks on Medicare by the Turnbull Government,” said Taskforce Chair, Sharon Claydon.
“Eden-Monaro is particularly vulnerable to the government’s Medicare rebate freezes with up to 15,000 people in the local area saying they are delaying or avoiding seeing the doctor because of the spiralling cost.”
The Taskforce is calling on the Turnbull Government to stop the attacks on Medicare which will see bulk billing drop and force residents of Eden-Monaro to pay more.
“I know that up to 12% or 18,000 people in our region are now delaying or avoiding getting prescriptions filled and this will only get worse with Turnbull’s plan to increase the cost of PBS medicines
